For the teacher, this page contains materials necessary for the projects and research, goals and objectives which, I hope, meet the National Standards for English/Language Arts in grades 6-12.
This project is almost a webquest, but not quite. I am still directing the outcomes of this project. I am asking a specific question that will elicit a specific answer. For that reason the project falls somewhere between a treasure hunt and a webquest.
Project #1 asks that the students use higher order thinking skills of analysis. In Project #1 the students are asked to look at both sides of a controversial literary question, compare and contrast them, and then come to a decision regarding which side of the question they support.
Project #2 asks students to again use higher order thinking skills, this time of evaluation and synthesis. The students are asked to evaluate the stories and explain how they do and do not fall within the "Romance Literature" genre.
Students will be doing their research and presenting those results in a multimedia presentation. They will document their research and present the results as a PowerPoint, Hyperstudio or web page format.
A sample evaluation form, which you can adapt for your purposes appears on http://www.ncsu.edu:80/midlink/rub.mmproj.htm. All three formats of presentation can be accommodated by the rubric.
