The new year has started and the documents detailing the provisions of No Child Left Behind are available on the Internet. As a teacher, you need to know what is expected of you and your students. You can download the 181 page document from the US Dept. of Education site:
http://www.ed.gov/offices/OESE/reference.pdf

The Federal agenda has provisions detailing what students should know and what constitutes a "Highly Qualified" teacher. Teachers and school districts have time lines that have to be met to qualify for Federal funding. What do you and your school district have to accomplish?

It's time to take a stand for technology in education. With cuts coming in most school districts and the "No Child Left Behind" iniatives, the "soft" subjects like the arts and technology will be hit hard with budget cuts. Not only are teachers going to have to have solid reasons why they are using "frills" to teach with and have their students do, they are going to be asked to demonstrate just how technology can help students prepare for the "real world." My column at Backwash has some ideas for you. Please check it out.
